HHM Special Engagement event planned for November, featuring The Saturday Giant

Did you enjoy the music lineup of Hell’s Half Mile’s ninth year? Of course you did. Well, the owners of Chet’s Corner Bar are owed some thanks for that, as they were co-sponsors for the abundance of great acts we had this past September. In particular, they sponsored the Detroit Party Marching Band’s New Orleans-style second line parade through downtown Bay City. In recognition of that, we’re putting on an HHM Special Engagement event at Chet’s, 1001 S. Madison Ave., on Saturday, Nov. 29, featuring the return of Columbus’s The Saturday Giant.

The Saturday Giant

Don’t let that photo above fool you — The Saturday Giant is a one-man band, not a quartet of quadruplets. His distinctive brand of arty folk rock — or Instagram rock, as he’s been described on at least one occasion — and intimate, freewheeling stage show are quite incomparable. When performing, the troubadour plays, records, and loops all manner of sounds, Frankensteining them together in a lush tableau of melodies. Joining him is the Lightnin’ Licks Vinyl Presentation Society (Brendon “Deon” Baranek and Jay Glysz, with maybe a few other DJs getting in on the mix).

The event is free and kicks off about 8 p.m. Before the day hits, though, check out The Saturday Giant’s Bandcamp page here and familiarize yourself with some of his tunes, in particular his latest wonderful EP, When Death Comes: http://thesaturdaygiant.bandcamp.com/.

Also, be sure to stay tuned for announcements regarding the 2015 Film Series and Indie Music Showcases.
