HELL’S HALF MILE FILM & MUSIC FESTIVAL KICKS OFF THE CROWDFUNDING RALLY

Call for Entries Now Open

Bay City, MI – Michigan’s true grassroots film festival, Hell’s Half Mile Film & Music Festival, is leading the way in film festival innovation with the launch of the Crowdfunding Rally. A partnership with Seed&Spark, the Crowdfunding Rally kicks off today with the final stage taking place at this year’s 10th Anniversary of Hell’s Half Mile Film & Music Festival, September 24-27, 2015.

“We realize there is a missed opportunity where filmmakers could capitalize on the audience excitement at local festivals and events, and we are excited to launch the Crowdfunding Rally,” commented Alan LaFave, festival director, Hell’s Half Mile Film & Music Festival. “Partnering with Seed&Spark offers the opportunity to engage the audience and convert a festival-going fan into a contributor. Seed&Spark offers the online platform, along with crowdfunding expertise, developed specifically for film projects. They are a vital part of the Crowdfunding Rally initiative.

The Crowdfunding Rally offers filmmakers the opportunity to submit their films for potential audience funding. The initiative kicks off today with an open call for entries for films being produced in and around the Great Lakes area. Projects will be reviewed and selected from the pool of submissions. The festival audience will then have a chance to vote for their favorites, narrowing the field to the top three to five projects to move from the online to the live portion of the Crowdfunding Rally at Hell’s Half Mile Film & Music Festival. In addition, Seed&Spark will be working with the entrants, providing pitch coaching and the project launch on the crowdfunding site.

“We always say friends don’t let friends crowdfund alone. This Crowdfunding Rally will bring together a group of filmmakers all pushing to get their projects made at the same time. We’re excited to see the additional push this gives these projects,” commented Emily Best, Founder and CEO, Seed&Spark. “We also say that not all crowdfunding happens behind a computer. Hell’s Half Mile is providing an incredible platform for filmmakers to get up live in front of film audiences and build real relationships with their supporters that will serve them throughout their careers.”

“While this is a fun addition to this year’s Hell’s Half Mile Film & Music Festival, we see this initiative evolving into a ‘crowdfunding circuit’ with film festivals across the country participating in similar events,” LaFave continued. “This approach is beneficial not only for the filmmakers but also continuing to grow the awareness of independent film festivals.”

The 10th Annual Hell’s Half Mile Film Festival takes place September 24-27, 2015 in Bay City. For additional information on the Pitch Event, along with the 10th Annual Hell’s Half Mile Film & Music Festival, visit www.hellshalfmile.com.

The name is a tribute to the area, the Bay City riverfront area once known as a rowdy seaport and now home to historic architecture and a thriving small city lifestyle, at the center of the Great Lakes State.
