Have you ever watched a film on the big screen in downtown Bay City . . . outside? No? Us either. But we’re ready to give it a whirl. On Friday July 11, we’ll be hosting a summer party at Unity Park, HHM style—which means music, film, drinks and, of course, the popcorn. If you’ve been to our events before, you already know that we like to have fun, and this party will not be an exception.
Lightnin’ Licks Vinyl Preservation Society—specializing in “dusty grooves, forgotten gems, and deep b-side cuts”—will start the evening by spinning power pop, funk, soul and R&B music. From there, HHM favorite The HandGrenades will take the stage. At dusk, we finish the evening by kicking back to watch a hilarious batch of adult-humor short films on the projector screen.
Admission is only $10, which includes live music, the films and a complimentary bag of popcorn. We’ll also have craft beer and sangria for sale at $5 apiece. A variety of theatre candy, water and soda will be available, and we strongly encourage you to order takeout from one of downtown Bay City’s fabulous establishments to bring in and enjoy at the party.
Nearby restaurants and shops open at that hour include HHM hot spots American Kitchen, Old City Hall, Heather’s, artigiano (offering picnic packs of cheese, crackers and fruit), Populace Café, Sweet Boutique (until 6 pm), Intermission Deli, St. Laurent Bros. (ice cream!), G’s Pizzeria, Stock Pot, Zef’s, The Gourmet Cupcake Shoppe (until 6 pm) and Waterfront Market (until 6 pm).
Because it is a smaller area, there will be a cap on the amount of people we will be allowed to bring in, so to ensure your spot, you can order online at BrownPaperTickets. Please print and bring your receipt with you. Tickets will also be available at “the door.” Please bring your own lawn or camping chair or blanket (but chairs are recommended).
The party starts at 7 pm and will wrap up around 11. Unity Park is sandwiched between Uptown Girl and Timothy’s Fine Cigars in the 100 block of Center Avenue, downtown Bay City.
