[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]The programmers at Hell’s Half Mile have been scouting films at the Tribeca Film Festival since 2007, our second year. Famously known for being co-founded by Robert DeNiro in 2002 in an effort to bring people back to Lower Manhattan after 911, Tribeca has yielded many audience favorites for Hell’s Half Mile. From “Timer” to “Ride of Me” to “Beneath the Harvest Sky”, we’ve programmed some great films from Tribeca’s programming over  the years.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_gallery type=”image_grid” interval=”3″ images=”3945,36,3947″ onclick=”link_image” custom_links_target=”_self”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]You may have seen from past newsletters that I’ve been attending some of the largest film festivals in the U.S… Sundance, South by Southwest, and Tribeca. Not only does attending these festivals allow us to check out some of the latest independent films, we are making connections with many producers, directors, and actors who have upcoming projects that we can keep tabs on for future programming. The more we’re out there, the more awareness filmmakers have of Hell’s Half Mile.

Plus, we have the chance to connect with filmmakers who may have screened a film with us, but never attended our festival. Like this year, I finally met producer Andrew Carlberg who produced a short film  we screened in 2012 called “Double or Nothing” starring Adam Brody and Keith David, and was written by Neil LaBute. This chance meeting was an opportunity for Andrew to introduce me to actress and director Jennifer Morrison (House M.D., Once Upon A Time, How I Met Your Mother). Andrew is now sending Jennifer’s directorial debut short film for consideration in our festival.

In the midst of networking we get to go to parties and events where the likes of Robert DeNiro, Gloria Steinem, Steve Buscemi and Sarah Jessica Parker are in attendance. I won’t lie, its pretty cool. But for us, the real stars are the films, especially the ones we bring back to Bay City.
